For the last 6 years the non profit association “Memorial Stanny Verlooy” has organized the cycle road race in remembrance of Stanny Verlooy, Aartselaar town alderman from 1996 to 2003.

 

On Sunday 2^nd of August 2009 we are organizing the International Cycling Federation (ICF) World Cycling Championships. Participants from various countries are expected to take part.

 

The World Cycling Championships for veterans and cyclosportives will be held on the famous circuit “Memorial Rik Van Steenbergen”, the annual professional cycle race.

 

The first of 4 championships will start at 09:00 and the last championship will finish around 18:00. We are expecting between 500 and 600 participants.

 

Throughout the day the association will also be organizing various demonstrations from local clubs. This event will take place on the “Laar”, in the centre of our town, from 13:00 to 19:00. Not only a sporting but also a cultural afternoon of entertainment is ensured.

 

Something we highly recommend is the VIP-lunch. Price for this hot and cold buffet is 25€ (drinks not included).

 

The proceeds of this day (including VIP-lunch) will be donated to charity in cooperation with the local social workers and the “Social Funds Stanny Verlooy”. Families of local children in need will be provided with clothing cheques.

 

Our town has a rich tradition with the “Memorial Rik Van Steenbergen”.

The local authorities and some of the distinguished people from our town e.g. Governor of Honour Camille Paulus, who has a lot of sympathy for our organization, have agreed to give their support
